"The track dates back to a session put to tape in the late 1970s, recording a jam between former neighbors Laurie Spiegel and Don Christensen. For those not familiar with Christensen’s name, his jagged, caffeinated beats powered everyone from the Contortions to Philip Glass’ DancePieces, and his song “Holland Tunnel Dive” is a menacing cold wave classic. “Donnie and Laurie” is a sonic speedball combining no-wave energy with contemplative minimalism. Christensen’s drums provide a nervy double-time beat, while Spiegel’s ElectroComp 101 semi-modular synth elegantly glides in and around that racket.
